Therapeutic Riding Lessons

Therapeutic Riding Lessons are available to persons with a variety of physical or cognitive challenges.  Riders are able to benefit in multiple ways from their interaction with horses--and from riding them.

Possible improvements include:

  • Increased range of motion
  • Strengthening of key muscle groups
  • Stretching/relaxation of spasticity
  • Neurological improvements from the horse's reciprocal gait movement
  • Improvement of a person's gait pattern (walking)
  • Improved motor planning
  • Heightened cognition
  • Improvement in social and interactive skills
  • Sensory integration

Pony Partners Program

We're on the road!  The Pony Partners Program takes friendly, gentle ponies to local schools and skill nursing centers on a regular basis.  In these settings, our popular ponies spur learning and cognitive skills in a number of ways.  Some of these include improvements in:

  • Literacy skills.  Students read to an accepting, friendly pony--which improves literacy levels
  • Sensory integration.  Brushing and petting the pony can build neurological pathways
  • Social skills
  • Cognitive level

Strength & Balance Riding Lessons

Riding lessons (using riding as a therapeutic intervention) are available to those who simply want to improve their strength and balance. In fact, riding provides a great way to strengthen your core & legs while substantially increasing balance. Riders over 40 years old will especially benefit!  These lessons are open to the general public.
