Ridin’
High, Inc.
is a non-profit
501(c)(3) organization
offering recreational and therapeutic horseback riding to
children and adults with disabilities.
Ridin’ High is affiliated with NARHA (North American Riding
for the Handicapped Association).
At Ridin’ High,
we offer activities to address the physical, mental, and
social difficulties facing our clients.
Our riders come to us with disabilities such as
cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, stroke, autism, and a range
of learning disorders.
For individuals with impaired mobility,
horseback riding gently and rhythmically
moves their bodies in a manner similar to a human walking
gait.
In addition to the physical benefits of riding a horse,
our lessons are designed to help riders mentally focus --
to practice using their concentration
in ways that very often do not come naturally to them.
And, because our horses are the partners
providing the opportunity to experience the benefits of
riding,
we also emphasize horsemanship skills with every student.
Volunteers are the key to safe riding for our students!
In addition to an instructor,
many riders require THREE volunteers --
one to lead the horse and two people to “side walk”.
Without our wonderful volunteers,
this type of program would not be possible.
Ridin High, Inc. serves Hamblen and the surrounding
counties.
